Excursion to Kazan

The capital of Tatarstan, one of the biggest republics in Russia. Over 1200000 citizens.
The first mentioning was found in the ancient manuscripts that are about 1000 years old.
Kazan is situated on the bank of the Volga river.The city was founded by the tribes of Bulgars. Then it became the capital of the Kazan Khanate. During the years of Ivan IV the Terrible reigning Kazan was conquered and became a part of Russia. In 1917 after the socialist revolution it was proclaimed the capital of the Tatar Autonomous Republic. Now Kazan has a large international airport, which connects it with the countries all over the world.
There are a lot of places of interests in Kazan including the Kazan Kremlin which was built in the 16th century. Unlike the Moscow Kremlin, Kremlin in Kazan was made of white stones.
During his student years V. I. Lenin studied in the Kazan University. Besides that there are many historic buildings such as the train station which was built in the 19th century, now it's restaurated and partially rebuilt.
As Kazan is a city of two religions: orthodoxy and Islam, they have both ancient mosques and churches.
