Excursion to Kozmodemyansk

The town is situated on the right bank of the Volga river, about 120 kilometers away from Yoshkar-Ola. It was founded in 1583 and named after two Russian saints Kozma and Demyan. At first it was just a tiny fortress and then it spread out. The town is placed on a picturesque hill and it's seen very well from the other bank of Volga, which you have to cross by a ferry to get to the town.
There is a very nice ethnographic museum in Kozmodemyansk. It represents a group of houses about 400 years old. There you can look and touch whatever you want, all the maintenance stuff and houseware.
If you are interested in churches and religion you may visit a beautiful chapel, which is situated right on the bank of Volga.
You may also visit the Art Gallery, you may find masterpieces of many great Russian painters there, such as Ayvazovsky, Brulov, Surikov.
The atmosphere of the old times that reigns there will capture you as soon as you get off the ferry after crossing Volga. Come to visit Kozmodemyansk and you will enjoy your trip.
